Bermuda's Premier Craig Cannonier dramatically handed in his resignation at night over the so-called Jetgate controversy which has rocked the ruling One Bermuda Alliance.
Governor George Fergusson confirmed the news and announced that deputy premier Michael Dunkley, would become interim premier.
On Saturday, Cannonier's party held its first meeting to discuss the ramifications of the long-running Jetgate saga.
Jetgate surrounded the use of US tycoon Nathan Landow’s private jet to take the Premier and two of his cabinet ministers for talks with Landow in America last year.
Cannonier had been leader for 17 months.
