Bermuda's Opposition Leader faces criticisms for giving daughter ganja tea

Published:Tuesday | June 3, 2014 | 9:32 AM

Bermuda’s Opposition Leader Marc Bean is under pressure from a leading children's rights advocate after admitting that he gave his young daughter ganja tea to treat her asthma.

Speaking in the House of Assembly on a report calling for a reform of Bermuda’s anti-cannabis legislation, Bean told legislators that when his daughter was about three years old he gave her a single cup of ganja tea and from then she no longer suffers from asthma.

His daughter is now 20 years old.

However, Sheelagh Cooper, who heads Bermuda’s Coalition for the Protection of Children, said she was shocked and appalled by Bean’s admission.

Cooper said the action of the opposition leader was action irresponsible and illegal.
