St Lucian political party blast gov't about wage cut proposal

Published:Friday | June 13, 2014 | 10:40 AM

Leader of St Lucia’s United Workers Party Allen Chastanet has blasted the Kenny Anthony administration's proposal to cut the salaries of public servants by five per cent.

Chastanet says the government is asking workers to give up their money while it is yet to demonstrate how it is prepared to make a sacrifice.

He further states that the government has not told the country how it has used savings from reducing subsidies.

According to him, the government has failed to put forward any plans to solve St Lucia’s economic situation.

The majority of the public sector unions have publicly rejected the government’s proposal of a five per cent wage cut.
