Attorney General intervenes in LIAT dispute
Attorney General Justin Simon has intervened in an impasse between pilots and the management of the regional airline LIAT over holiday pay and other contractual issues.
Mr Simon has reportedly written to the chairman of the airline’s pilots association, Captain Michael Blackburn, asking for a hold off on any industrial action, pending a review of the situation.
Last month, Blackburn threatened to withhold pilots’ services if their call for premium pay for work done on public holidays was not honoured by the airline\'s management.
Meanwhile, Captain Blackburn says while he’s not optimistic about the request he will take it into consideration.
He says he has received the assurance of the Tourism Ministry and the Attorney General that the law will be enforced.
LIAT Chief Executive Officer Mark Darby is insisting that premium pay does not apply to airline crews throughout the Caribbean.
