St Lucian union says Gov’t has begun to cut public sector wages
The St Lucia Civil Service Association says the government has started implementing a five per cent reduction in the wages of public servants as the International Monetary Fund urges the Kenny Anthony government to reduce the wage bill.
Yesterday, the Association’s president Mary Isaac told public workers that the union had been informed that the government had given the green light to implement the pay cut.
The government is seeking to reduce the $76 million Eastern Caribbean fiscal deficit by cutting public service salaries and introducing a wage freeze for the next three years.
However, both proposals have been rejected by the public workers.
