Doctors performing only emergency procedures at Barbados main hospital

Published:Tuesday | July 8, 2014 | 1:43 PM

Doctors at Barbados' Queen Elizabeth Hospital are reporting that they are only performing emergency medical procedures due to a shortage of medical supplies.

Vice-president of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners, Dr Vikash Chatrani, says the hospital's administration has confirmed that there are critical shortages in basic and essential supplies.

The shortage of medical supplies comes after the pharmaceutical providers to the hospital withdrew their services because of overdue payment of goods and services.

Chatrani says he is urging the Barbadian government to pay the pharmaceutical providers immediately to prevent harm to the hospital's patients.
