St Lucia opposition party objects to Dominica’s move towards the CCJ

Plans by the Government of Dominica to sign onto the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) as the island’s final court, are being objected to by the small opposition Lucian People’s Movement which is led by Therold Prudent.

In affirming his party’s opposition to joining the CCJ, Prudent insists that such a move would serve to devalue the principles of democracy.

He has also raised concerns about the independence of the CCJ.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his administration had received the go ahead from Britain to replace the London-based Privy Council as the country’s final court.
