Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh

Hosts Sri Lanka won the first Test in Mirpur by 107 runs today after Bangladesh made a gallant attempt to reach a massive victory target.



Chasing 521 for victory, Bangladesh were in with a chance to pull off an extraordinary victory when they moved to 403 for six, but lost their last four wickets for just 10 runs.



Skipper Mohammad Ashraful completed his fifth Test century before falling leg before wicket to Chaminda Vaas for 101.



Ashraful resumed the final day on 70 with Bangladesh on 254 for five, needing another 267 runs for victory.



Shakib Al Hasan 96 added 111 with Mushfiqur Rahim 61 before the final four wickets fell for 10 runs in six overs.



Muttiah Muralitharan was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with four for 141 to finish with 10 wickets for the match.



Dammika Prasad who took three for 105 supported Muralitharan.



The series concludes with the second Test, which starts in Bogra on Saturday.
