Antigua and Barbuda PM calls for Attorney General’s resignation
Former Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer is calling for the resignation of that country’s Attorney General who goes on trial on October 1 on allegations of passport fraud involving a Jamaican.
Prosecutors had alleged that in 2008, Steadroy ‘Cutie’ Benjamin, signed a passport application form and photograph of Jamaican Shane Anthony Allen.
The Jamaican claimed to have been an Antiguan named Tyrell Brann, when he applied for and obtained the Antigua & Barbuda passport.
However, Brann had died earlier.
The Jamaican and Lynda Brann, the mother of the deceased man, had been convicted and sentenced to two years in jail as a result of the fraudulent activities.
The former Prime Minister said it was extremely poor judgment on the part of the new Prime Minister Gaston Brown to have included Benjamin in his administration following the June general election.
Spencer said the new Prime Minister has not responded to a letter he sent protesting Benjamin’s appointment to the Cabinet.
