LIAT Airlines defends flight cancellations record

Published:Saturday | August 2, 2014 | 12:09 PM

LIAT Airlines has defended its operations record and says its flight cancellations are low compared to what exists in the industry worldwide.

The regional carrier was responding to criticisms from the head of the Barbados-based National Union of Public Workers Denis Clarke.

The veteran trade unionist was stranded in Antigua last week due to flight problems and described the cash-strapped airlines’ operations as bedlam.

However, in a statement yesterday, the Antigua-based airline conceded that its operational performance is not where it should be, but underscored that LIAT’s average punctuality over the last six years has been 67 per cent.

The airline says it has been forced to cancel between one and two flights daily in comparison to the average two across the industry worldwide.
