Eight arrested in human trafficking ring, 25 rescued in Dom Rep
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Aug.17, CMC – Eight persons have been arrested for involvement in human trafficking and 25 victims were rescued in a joint law enforcement operation involving the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) and security officials here.
The eight human traffickers, all Dominicans who were arrested last week, allegedly “located and recruited the victims for sexual exploitation and financial profit,” the ICE said in a statement.
The victims, also from the Dominican Republic, ranged in age from 14 to 17 years and were “forced into prostitution” the statement added.
The Dominican Child Services is caring for 16 of the 25 victims who are minors; 12 girls and four boys.
The Attorney General’s Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons Unit is prosecuting the cases.
