Officials in Dominica are banking on a new national anti-drug plan to facilitate supply reduction.
Earlier drug-fighting strategies on the island have focused on prevention and money laundering.
The Director of the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit, Jacinta Bannis says the new plan with its emphasis on supply reduction took three years to develop, and the authorities are optimistic that it will help the island tackle drug trafficking.
Ms Bannis says it also includes coastal watch programmes that will require the help of fishermen in the anti-narcotics battle.
