West Indies captain Chris Gayle has returned to the Number One spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International batting rankings.

Gayle jumped five places up the rankings list and reclaimed the top rating following his commanding century against New Zealand in Napier on Monday night.

He smashed 135 off 129 balls in the final One Day International but New Zealand won the match and the series 2-1.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the only other West Indies batsman in the One Day top ten. He is listed at Number 4.

West Indies players now controlled the top batting spot in both forms of the international game, as Chanderpaul is the current Number One among Test batsmen.

In the all-rounder category, Gayle is ranked fourth, while his Jamaica and West Indies teammate Jerome Taylor is joint 10th in the bowling.
