Cruise passenger collapses and dies in St Lucia
CASTRIES, St.Lucia Dec. 28, CMC - A cruise ship passenger was pronounced dead at a hospital after he collapsed here on Sunday.
The police report that between 1:30 and 2 pm local time, the male visitor, believed to be an Italian in his late 60s or early 70s, fell near the bathroom area in the La Place Carenage duty-free shopping mall.
He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It is believed that the deceased who was a passenger on the Queen Mary 2, docked in Castries Harbour, suffered a heart attack.
An eyewitness said: “By the time I arrived he was on the ground. He wasn’t breathing. The medical people were already there. I was told he was walking and he just collapsed…”
This incident follows another tragedy earlier this month when a crewmember and two contractors died on board the Oceania Insignia when a fire broke out aboard the cruise ship that was also docked in Castries Harbour.
