Guyana PNC chairman resigns
The chairman of the opposition Peoples National Congress (PNC) in Guyana has resigned.
Winston Murray, who remains a Member of Parliament, said his resignation stems from differences with the party over the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
During national consultations on the new trade agreement between the Caribbean and Europe Mr. Murray reportedly supported President Jagdeo\'s position that Guyana should not sign the agreement.
At that time, he was the acting leader of the main opposition party.
The PNC later issued a statement urging the government to sign the agreement, which it eventually did.
In his letter of resignation, which took effect from January 15, Mr Murray said it had become impossible for him to continue with any credibility as chairman.
