Wallace selected in Windies ‘A’ team
Jamaica’s leg-spinner Gavin Wallace has been selected in a 12-man West Indies ‘A’ team to face the touring England team in a three-day match in St Kitts at month end.
The match is set for January 29 to 31.
Wallace, who represented Jamaica at the Under-19 level in 2003, made his senior debut against the Leeward Islands in the first-round of the regional four-day tournament over a week ago in St Kitts.
He had a dream debut, taking a record eight-wicket haul to lead Jamaica to victory on the third day.
The 24 year old Wallace had tremendous figures of eight for 20 off 10 overs with two maidens, the best figures ever by a Jamaican in tournament history.
His effort surpassed Nehemiah Perry’s haul of eight for 45 against Guyana at Sabina Park in 1989 as the best figures for a Jamaican in regional four-day cricket.
The squad also includes five players who have represented the West Indies senior team.
They are T&T off spinner Amit Jaggernauth and opening batsman Lendl Simmons, batsman Leon Johnson of Guyana, fast bowler Kemar Roach of Barbados and allrounder Darren Sammy of St Lucia.
The remaining members of the squad are Adrian Barath, Brandon Bess, Darren Bravo, Nelon Pascal, Kieran Powell and Devon Thomas.
