St Vincent probes suspected Chik-V deaths
Health officials in St. Vincent are investigating whether the deaths of two people are linked to the mosquito-borne illness Chikungunya.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Luis de Shong, said the two suspected deaths have not been confirmed by laboratory tests.
De Shong disclosed that the deceased were elderly patients.
They died at home.
Meanwhile, he is urging citizens to be vigilant and to help in the fight against Chikungunya.
To date, St. Vincent has recorded 173 laboratory confirmed cases and 1,220 suspected cases of Chikungunya.
The country diagnosed its first case in April.
