Trinidad and Tobago’s National Security Minister has pledged to cut the country\'s murder rate, which reached a record 550 last year.

The numbers for 2009 have reportedly been rising.

Despite this, Martin Joseph is promising that there will be no new record this year.

He said the situation has already reached unacceptable levels.

Mr. Joseph said there would be a greater focus on gangs, which are blamed for much of the violent crime in Trinidad and Tobago.
