Guyana’s Prime Minister, Sam Hinds said the economic crisis is forcing two international companies to rethink billion-dollar investment projects in the country.

He said the Russian aluminum company, RUSAL has shelved plans to construct a hydro-power plant and an alumina smelter.

The Chinese bauxite company, Bosai has said it will build an alumina plant in Guyana in two stages rather than one.

According to Mr. Hinds at least five foreign gold-mining companies have scaled back their prospecting plans.
