Blagojevich on scandal

Published:Thursday | January 29, 2009 | 5:51 PM

Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich is maintaining that he did nothing wrong in trying to sell the seat vacated by Barack Obama, when he became US president.

Mr Blagojevich has told his impeachment trial that there was no evidence to prove a crime.

He said it would set a dangerous precedent to oust him.

Blagojevich was arrested in December and faces a criminal trial over bribes.

He said if he was guilty of any crimes then he would have resigned voluntarily in December.

If he’s found guilty of abusing his power he will be forced from office.
