St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas, has reportedly been ignoring calls from a former cabinet member for him to step down.

Dwyer Astaphan, who left the cabinet last year after serving as minister of tourism and national security, is blaming the Prime Minster for what he describes as public disenchantment with the government.

Prime Minister Douglas said he has no personal animosity towards Mr Astaphan.

Dr Douglas said he only recently approved the appointment of Mr Astaphan as a consultant to the ministry of legal affairs.

Dr Douglas plans to seek a fourth straight term in general elections expected this year.
