Guyana air traffic controllers strike
A strike by air traffic controllers has forced some flights in and out of Guyana to be cancelled.
At least three Caribbean Airlines flights were cancelled because of the action by about 20 air traffic controllers at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the main port of entry in the country.
However, another regional airline, LIAT, said its flights operations were not impacted by the strike.
The workers stayed off the job Friday and Saturday, after they were unable to reach agreement with the government on a number of issues, including retroactive payments.
The interim boss of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Zulfikar Mohamed, said officials were exploring ways of keeping airport operations as normal as possible, despite the absence of some of the workers.
Mohamed said senior staffers were also filling in for the striking controllers.
The ongoing dispute has led to at least two other work stoppages at the airport over the past year.
