A protester has thrown a shoe at Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao during a speech at Cambridge University in England.

The protestor is reported to have also called the Chinese prime minister a dictator.

According to BBC reports the shoe landed about a metre away from Mr Wen who described the incident as despicable.

He had earlier signed a series of trade agreements with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the final day of a three-day UK visit.

Police later confirmed that the man had been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

Last month former US President George W Bush was forced to duck after a shoe was thrown at him during a visit to Iraq.
