Barbados\' Central Bank Governor Marion Williams is predicting a sharp economic decline this year, as well as a rise in unemployment.
According to Dr Williams the economy only grew by point 7 per cent last year.
She expects it to shrink by a further point 2 per cent in 2009 mainly due to a significant fall in tourism revenue.
She noted unemployment, which was recorded at 8.4 per cent at the end of September last year, will have risen due to lay-offs in the last quarter of 2008.
