US President Barack Obama has accepted the decision by former senator Tom Daschle to withdraw his nomination as health and human services secretary.
Daschle withdrew his nomination over a controversy regarding unpaid taxes.
His move also follows that of Nancy Killefer, who was nominated as the government’s chief performance officer.
The post was created in an effort to help cut wasteful government spending.
Ms Killefer also withdrew her nomination over tax issues.
The two high-profile withdrawals are the latest setbacks for Mr Obama as he seeks to form his new administration.
Both Mr Daschle and Ms Killefer said they don’t want their personal issues to detract from the US president’s agenda.
