The Transport Ministry in Guyana has fired air traffic controllers who had been on strike since last week.
Earlier this week the Aviation Minister, Robeson Benn had called for the air traffic controllers to return to work, or face dismissal.
The estimated 15 controllers had been on a six day strike, pressing for outstanding back pay.
In their dismissal letters, the controllers were told that they had breached their contracts.
Their letters of dismissal also stated that having failed to resume duty, the Civil Aviation Authority had no alternative but to end their contracts with immediate effect.
