Bermuda police probe
The Bermuda government is now probing what it said was a scam to frame Premier Dr Ewart Brown and one of his Ministers.
Premier Brown and Works and Engineering Minister, Derrick Burgess said the alleged corruption plot was uncovered earlier this week by Permanent Secretary Robert Horton in an internal investigation at the ministry.
He said Horton\'s investigation had revealed that two cheques written by Landmark Lisgar Construction Limited (LLC) had been fraudulently altered.
The company was hired to construct a court and police facility in Bermuda.
In one case, the pay to line on a cheque was reportedly changed to read Dr E. Brown, while another was altered to read D. Burgess.
But officials said that investigation proved that no money was received by any Cabinet Minister.
The internal investigation concluded that the cheques were altered after deposit, by an unknown person, for the purpose of damaging the reputations of Premier Brown, Minister Burgess and/or the Bermuda government.
