Former Nevis and Leeward Islands cricketer Warrington Phillip has escaped the death sentence for murdering his wife but will serve the rest of his life in prison.

Resident Judge Ianthea Leigertwood-Octave handed down the sentence this morning in the Charlestown High Court in Nevis after a one-hour sentencing hearing.

The 40 year old Phillip showed no emotion.

The ruling came 10 days shy of two years since Phillip’s estranged wife Shermelle was found dead in her car parked in the yard of her Brown Hill home sometime after 8 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2007.

Her throat was cut.
