Windward Islands defeat Leeward Islands

The Windward Islands defeated Leeward Islands by seven wickets inside three days to record back-to-back wins in the regional four-day match yesterday at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia.



Set a mere 45 runs to win after bowling out the Leewards for 283 in their fifth round fixture, the Windwards suffered a three-wicket stutter before securing victory at 47 for three, midway the post-lunch session.



With maximum 12 points from the game, the Windwards have now climbed to 36 points and are third in the standings behind leaders Jamaica, 42, which were idle for the fifth round.



Final scores are Leeward Islands 75 and 283, Windward Islands 314 and 47 for three.



Barbados moved within three points of Jamaica after beating Guyana by an innings and 59 runs late yesterday at the Windward Cricket Club in Barbados.



Following on 207 runs behind, Guyana were bowled out for 148.



495 for eight declared, Guyana 288 for nine and 148 for eight.



Over at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, Combined Campuses and College, trailing hosts Trinidad and Tobago by 47 runs on first innings, reached 43 for two at the close of a rain-hit third day yesterday.
