Digicel completes redundancies

Telecommunications giant Digicel is reported to have achieved its target of 450 voluntary redundancies across its Caribbean operations.



The move will cost the Irish-owned telecoms group about $3 million.



According to a report in The Irish Times newspaper the reduction in staff numbers includes about 50 expatriates whose contracts were not renewed.



The paper quotes Digicel vice-chairman Leslie Buckley as saying the business was in good shape financially.
