Cuba, Haiti and Honduras are shortly to receive help to deal with food shortages caused by a series of hurricanes last year.
The Brazilian and Spanish governments said they plan to launch a joint effort to assist the countries.
The Spanish embassy in Brazil said the three countries had asked for assistance because their food security was compromised by the devastation caused by Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike.
Haiti\'s food crisis was further exacerbated by the storms, which struck in August and September.
Brazil is to donate 44 thousand tonnes of rice, one thousand 105 tonnes of powdered milk and a further 4.5 tonnes of fruit and vegetable seeds.
Spain will then transport and distribute the items.
