Antigua parliament dissolved
The parliament in Antigua has been dissolved.
The parliament was dissolved yesterday ahead of the announcement for the date of the general election.
Addressing a party conference on Sunday, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said he would be declaring the date shortly.
Under the Constitution, general elections must be held within three months of the dissolution of Parliament.
The United Progressive Party (UPP) and its chief rival, the Antigua Labour Party (ALP) have been in campaign mode since last year, ahead of the poll, which is due by March.
Spencer and the UPP are seeking a second consecutive term in office after beating the ALP at the last general election in 2004.
Prior to the 2004 vote, the ALP dominated the country’s political landscape, governing for 28 consecutive years.
