Former coach blasts England

Former England cricket coach Duncan Fletcher said the country’s crushing defeat to West Indies in the opening Test on Saturday was one of the team’s lowest points in the last decade.

Fletcher, who guided England to their historic Ashes win over Australia in 2005, said the visitors could find it difficult to rebound from the humiliating innings and 23-run drubbing at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Trailing by 74 runs on first innings, England dramatically collapsed for 51 all out, their third lowest total ever in Test to hand West Indies only their first win in a Wisden Trophy series in nine years.

Fletcher, who quit in 2007 after eight years in charge of the national side, said England need to alter their team for the second Test in Antigua in order to present a serious challenge.

The second Test starts on Friday.

He said pacers Steve Harmison and out-of-form batsman Ian Bell had to be sacked immediately.
