Zimbabwe politician charged
Just days after his party signed on to a power-sharing government in Zimbabwe, politician Roy Bennett has been charged with several offences.
The charges against the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) treasurer included terrorism, immigration law violation and illegal arms possession.
The MDC has described his arrest as politically motivated and are calling for his release.
According to Bennett’s defence team, the charges against their client have changed several times since his arrest on Friday.
The MDC said Mr. Bennett had been charged under Zimbabwe\'s Public Order and Security Act with banditry and sabotage and conspiring to acquire arms with a view to disrupting essential services.
He has also been charged with attempting to leave the country illegally.
Mr. Bennett is the party\'s choice to be deputy agriculture minister in the new unity government.
