Zimbabwe\'s new finance minister Tendai Biti, said soldiers and civil servants will now be paid in US dollars to help revive the shattered economy.
Hyperinflation has left the country’s local currency almost worthless.
Mr. Biti, who is a member of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change party, says some 130 thousand government employees are receiving 100 dollars a month tax-free.
He says the state has enough foreign currency to pay the wages for February and March.
Mr. Biti says the measures were designed to get the country profitable again.
