Pistorius recovers from boat accident
Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius is expected to make a full recovery after suffering head and facial injuries following a boating accident on Saturday night.
The 22 year old South African had surgery yesterday and was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Johannesburg hospital.
Manager Peet van Zyl said Pistorius is still hoping to compete in the 100 and 400-metre races at the Paralympic World Championships in Manchester, England in May, subject to medical clearance.
He is the Paralympic gold medallist in the two disciplines, as well as the 200.
Pistorius, nicknamed the Blade Runner, had his legs amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old because he had no fibulas, but he became one of the world’s top disabled athletes.
