Top local players Gareth Henry and Olympian Nigella Saunders won the main titles at the two-day Tournament of Kings badminton championship, which ended yesterday at the Constant Spring Golf Club’s Racquet Complex.

Henry retained the male open title with a 21-11, 21-13 victory over Tossainte Taylor, while Saunders won the female open title by beating ‘B’ Division champion Carla Grant 21-12, 21-12.

Henry and Saunders went through the tournament without dropping a game.

The tournament produced a major upset when 13 year old Jonathon David Smith, who was recently promoted from the ‘D’ to ‘C’ Division defeated number two seeded Shawn Forrester on the first day.

However, Smith was knocked out by Che Beckford in the next round in a close contest.

The Male ‘B’ Division was won by Willroy Myles who defeated Che Beckford, while Carla Grant took the female title with victory over Jahvaine Henry.
