Guadeloupe umbrella trade union LPK has given the government until the end of today to address its request for salary increases for workers in the country.

Yesterday’s talks with employers is said to have ended without a final agreement on the issue.

The unions are demanding an increase in salaries of 200 euros, which is about US$250.

All but one of the employer groups have agreed to a formula to give workers 100 euros if the French government would make up the shortfall for 3 years.

The representative of the French government said the state has already made it clear that it cannot afford a higher increase.

The leader of the trade union Elie Domota is calling for a general strike to be resumed if the government does not provide an answer to its request today.
