Pakistan replying strongly
Younis Khan posted an unbeaten 306 to steer hosts Pakistan to 574 for five in reply to Sri Lanka’s 644 for seven declared as the first cricket Test meandered to a draw with only a day remaining.
Khan is now attempting to break Brian Lara’s world record of 400 runs in Test match.
He needs a further 95 runs to surpass the former West Indies captain’s record innings scored against England at Antigua in 2004.
Skipper Khan, only the 20th batsman and third Pakistani to surpass 300 runs in a test innings, guided the hosts past the follow-on target and within 70 runs of Sri Lanka’s first innings total by stumps on a lifeless wicket at the National Stadium.
Pakistan resumed this morning on 296 for three with Khan on 149.
The two wickets to fall this morning were Misbah-ul-Haq for 42 and Faisal Iqbal for 57.
Dilhara Fernando, Ajantha Mendis, Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene have taken a wicket each.
