Tension remains high in Martinique and Guadeloupe following ongoing strikes over the cost of living.
Protesters reportedly set fire to garbage bins and rammed vehicles into buildings in a second night of violence this week in Martinique.
Guadeloupe strikers assembled outside a building where bargaining talks are taking place.
A representative from the French government said a deal might be signed today.
However, Guadeloupe union leader Elie Domota said it’s still too early to say whether the new offer would be acceptable.
Workers in the French Islands have been on strike for over a month, demanding higher wages to cope with the high cost of living.
