Australia batted themselves into a dominant position with a first-innings total of 466 on today’s second day of the opening Test against hosts South Africa at the Wanderers.
When stumps were drawn, South Africa were struggling on 85 for three with captain Graeme Smith out for a duck, Hashim Amla for one and Jacques Kallis for 27.
Neil McKenzie is undefeated on 32 against the bowling of Mitchell Johnson one for eight, Ben Hilfenhaus one for 14 and Peter Siddle one for 39.
Earlier, a century on debut by Marcus North, 117, and a career-best 96 from Mitchell Johnson helped Australia from an overnight score of 254 for five to 466.
