The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda has sentenced a former Rwandan priest to 25 years in jail for committing acts of genocide, sexual assault and kidnapping.

The BBC reports that Emmanuel Rukundo took part in the abduction of Tutsis who sought refuge at a seminary, many of whom were later killed.

He was also convicted of attempted rape by a United Nations War Crimes Court.

Rukundo’s sentence is expected to be reduced from time spent in detention, following his arrest in 2001 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Its reported that during the 1994 Rwanda killings, some 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in 100 days.

Rukundo is the second Roman Catholic priest to have been convicted of genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
