England against Windies in final Test
England are at a respectable 80 for 1 just after lunch on the opening day of the fifth and final Test against West Indies in Trinidad, a match that they have to win if they are to salvage a draw in the series.
Opener Andrew Strauss, 47 not out, and Owais Shah, 19 not out, overcame the early loss of Alastair Cook for 12 to add 48 for the second wicket against what has so far been a lacklustre West Indies\' attack, whose opening gambit suggested they will be quite content to play within themselves for five days and make off with the draw.
It was a peculiar morning of Test cricket, slow-paced from the word go in spite of England\'s steady accumulation.
It wasn\'t, however, unexpected.
Both teams revealed their game plans at the toss, England handed a debut to the pacy Amjad Khan and a recall to their second spinner, Monty Panesar, in a bid to claim 20 wickets in a Test for the first time since September. West Indies dropped their senior spinner, Sulieman Benn, as well as resting their ailing spearhead, Jerome Taylor.
