Guyana union rejects polygraphs

Guyana\'s public service union is rejecting the growing use of lie detector tests in the public sector.

Lie detector testing has been adopted by customs and police in the country.

Last week, 15 staff members of the Revenue Authority were asked to take similar tests.

The head of the Public Service Union Patrick Yarde is insisting that the use of polygraphs to determine guilt or innocence is not authorised under Guyana\'s laws.

President Bharrat Jagdeo fired nine officers of a Customs Anti-drugs Unit last year after they failed lie detector tests.

He now says he’s not in favour of the tests being conducted routinely in large agencies.
