New Zealand beat West Indies women
The West Indies suffered a 56-run defeat to New Zealand in their Group ‘A’ match of the International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup at Bankstown Oval in Australia today.
The Kiwis, opting to bat after winning the toss, compiled 192 for eight and then restricted the West Indies to 136 for eight off their allotted 50 overs.
Sarah Tsukigawa top scored for New Zealand with 41.
Bowling for West Indies, Stafanie Taylor ended with two for 33 and Kirbyina Alexander had two for 37.
Pamela Lavine top scored for West Indies with 40, while Stafanie Taylor supported with 38.
The result guarantees a Super Six spot for New Zealand, who head the group standings with maximum four points.
Australia, who defeated South Africa in another match today, are joint second on two points with West Indies but boast a superior net run-rate.
West Indies, are still poised to get into the Super Six phase as long as they maintain a top-three position in the Group. They will complete their preliminary round schedule tomorrow night Caribbean time against Australia, the defending champions.
In a Group ‘B’ game today, England easily defeated India by nine wickets at North Sydney Oval.
