CARICOM leaders to hold talks on economic partnership

CARICOM leaders, who are now meeting in Belize, are to hold talks tomorrow on how to implement the economic partnership agreement with the European Union (EU).

The Dominican Republic is expected to participate in that discussion.

The leaders will meet under the auspices of the Caribbean Forum, which was formed to negotiate jointly with the EU.

Some CARICOM nations want the process to be overseen by the Georgetown-based secretariat. However, the Dominican Republic objected to that proposal.

CARIFOURUM is also set to discuss the future of the regional trade negotiating machinery (RNM).

Guyana insisted that the RNM had mishandled the EU deal and had become too independent.
