Governor rejects calls to remove Auditor General

The Governor of Bermuda Sir Richard Gozney has rejected a call by Premier Ewart Brown to have Auditor General Larry Dennis removed from his post.

Brown had made the request on Wednesday.

Mr Brown complained that a special report by the Auditor General showed that he had abused his position by attacking the ruling Progressive Labour Party.

The auditor general had been critical of the US$78 million police and court-building project in Bermuda.

He said lax financial controls had resulted in US$6.5 million being paid out without verifying amounts to receipted invoices.
