Grenada PM under pressure over airport renaming
Pressure is being placed on Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas to discipline his Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David over plans for the renaming of the Point Salines International Airport in honour of former revolutionary leader Maurice Bishop.
David, who is also the island’s tourism minister, made the disclosure during a recent visit to Cuba, triggering public controversy.
The debate, which initially focused on the issue of whether Bishop should be accorded such an honour, has since mushroomed into strong criticisms of David, with one former Prime Minister accusing him of disrespecting his leader.
But while acknowledging that the Minister has spoken out of turn, the Prime Minister has said he’s prepared to deal with the matter internally.
