A controversy has developed over golfer Tiger Woods’ appearance fee, after it was confirmed that he would be playing in his first tournament in Australia for more than a decade later this year.
Woods is reportedly being paid 3 million dollars to compete in November\'s Australian Masters, but there is concern that it will impact on other events.
The Victoria state taxpayers will reportedly cover half the cost of Woods\' visit via the government’s support for the event, which according to state premier John Brumby, would earn 19 million dollars in economic benefits.
The Australian Open takes place two weeks after the Masters in Melbourne.
