The Atlantis resort in the Bahamas has urged its managers to take unpaid vacation as it seeks to cope with the global financial crisis.

The resort said the drop in tourism due to the global economic downturn is an opportune time for doing so.

The company has opted for unpaid vacations instead of cutting pay or eliminating jobs.

Several hotels across the Caribbean have already sent home many workers as the financial downturn worsens.
